[Milestone1] A Devil's First Temptations (A Devil's First Friend)

Mephostopheles was not his name at birth. No doubt, it was some divinely linked name, given the patterns he bears. But just because his lineage was divine did not mean that he was. No, Mephestopheles was born knowing he was far from divine, no matter what his parents and birth-clowder claimed. 

The Shades had given him his true name as a kit, and he held it close and secret for when the time was right. He knew not then when that time would be, but he knew it would come. 

He was given a task by the Shades, as a kit, meant more as a stepping stone for the future. Guide a fellow kit of divine lineage down the path of the Shades, and he could do anything.

And so Mephostopheles, bearing another name then, purred at the smaller kit and enticed them towards friendship with games. At first, those games were simple things, silly games any kits might play. Useless games. But in time, Mephostopheles shifted the games to involve the mind. His friend enjoyed those games, much to his surprise.

Even though friend did not know backwards from forward, at first, when set in those games, they learned quickly. And they were truly his friend, even if he did not know it then. But as Mephostopheles taught them to think, he realized they were an asset, and that this friendship did not have to be discarded when Mephostopheles discarded the clan.

And so he drew his friend into the dreams with the Night Shades, and his friend was given a true name of their own- Faustus. And Mephostopheles? Mephostopheles gave his friend the gift of being the first living being to know his own true name, in return.
