The Light That Shadows Us [Shade Lore 1]

“We were not loved. Do not mention this foolishness again.

They cast us out–starved us, poisoned our food, turned their noses when we were sick and cold and afraid.

Abandoned and shunned. In their final act of cruelty, they abandoned us for good in this cruel city.

…You will never have to rely on the weakness of others, like your ancestors. I will train you.”

From the shadows cast by humanity’s greed, pride, and conquest, the suffering of abandoned pet cats condensed into a tangible, shadowy form. The “original” Night Shades of the Ivy Trail were not physical cats, but functioned more as remnants of humanity’s negative emotions and “sin” after their sudden disappearance.

For every cat who has suffered, a Shade forms from their pain. It grows stronger with every act of hate, jealousy, and greed; with every wound suffered and sickness spread.

What remained of the abandoned pets would begin to slip into something… deeper… during their dreams. A realm framed by shadow and muggy darkness. The floor is wet with dark liquid. The Shade realm is a blood-stained copy of the city itself, but the only sign of life in this realm is the Shade before you, ready to take you under their wing, ready to make you what you could be, once you shed your weakness.

"The origin of our Night Shades, which wisely guide us to purity and strength. You would do well to listen, little one."
