[SSS] Setting up the Bonfire

Beam led the way through the territory: a giant golden tiger of a cat plowing through the overgrowth into a  land where the earth itself was ashen and left Brush's paws blackened from soot. There were little pockets of weeds sprouting here and there, but most of the land consisted of long black claws of hollowed out trees that had burned to cinders. Did they really live here? Curiosity drove him to pad after Beam, even as the grass got tall enough to get lost in.

"Almost there," Beam's rough voice reassured, heavy and confident. There seemed to be so few landmarks, it seemed strange how assured they were.

Before long, they had indeed reached a place that could be considered... something? It was a flattened area of grass, large enough for a cat to stretch their legs out and enjoy the sun with a few others. The cloudy sky over head reminded him that rain would be quite unpleasant...

And Brush had, well... Brush had expected there to be a bit more, here. The white tom padded across the sparse clearing, encircled by tall grass and a burnt, towering husk of a tree. The ground under paw was packed and hard-- and still a bit sooty-- but there were a few piles of moss tucked near the base of the tree that looked to be sleeping spots.

"Well, what do you think?" The larger, muscular golden tabby asked the spark. "I know, she can be a bit much at first..."

Brush blinked, straightening. His tail flicked upright, the quirk in it making it look more like a bush than anything else. He hadn't even been thinking about Cinders-- the cat who had told Beam to drag him back to camp. "Erm, uh, it's..."

"I guess I just expected there to be more?"

"Oh, there will be, spark," Beam grunted, bumping their shoulder into his and nearly sending him tumbling to the ground. "We only just moved into this spot. The forest burns in patches, so we have to keep moving our camp. In return, there is plenty of fresh food for our prey, and therefore, plenty of prey for us."

Brush nodded, uncertain about the prospects. It was better than not having a home at all, he supposed, but...
